The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and
Protection Act has support from companies like Facebook, IBM, Microsoft,
Verizon and more. So what is it?
Violet Blue sums it up as, “CISPA's primary function is to remove
legal barriers that might keep Internet companies from giving all your
communication and information to the government. It allows "cyber
entities" (such as Internet service providers, social networks like Facebook
and cell phone companies like AT&T) to circumvent Internet privacy laws
when they're pressured by Homeland Security to hand over or shut down -- well,
almost anything of yours online that the government wants, no warrant needed.”
So how does
this affect piracy? Because of the wording in the Act it will allow the US Government
to take action against sites such as The Pirate Bay and Wikileaks. Is this right
or wrong?

also describes CISPA as, “CISPA is primarily a surveillance bill. With CISPA, a
company like Google, Facebook, Twitter, or AT&T could intercept your
e-mails and text messages, send copies to one another and to the government,
and keep it from being sent if it fits into a plan to stop
"cybersecurity" threats.”
What are
your thoughts? Do you think CISPA is the same or different from SOPA &
PIPA?
This CISPA sounds worse than both of the previous acts (SOPA and PIPA). This means that all of our texts, voicemails, and tons of personalized data will be up for grabs for whatever reason the government deems remotely necessary! Considering how much time I spend online and on the phone, I suppose a good data miner could profile me to a tee... Scary.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds absolutely horrible in my opinion. The government should not have the right to get information from internet sites as they please. There are some things that should just be private. This is outrageous and should not be allowed to be passed under any circumstances! The SOPA and PIPA act were enough; we do not need anything else like that either or even worse. We should protest this like we did with SOPA and PIPA and make sure this is not passed!
